Spirit week screens that keep every class in the game

Spirit week runs on participation, and participation runs on reminders. Use your screens to name tomorrow’s theme, post the class standings and share photos from today, so the energy carries from Monday to Friday.

Why it matters

Participation fades by Wednesday

Monday’s theme gets a big turnout because everyone heard about it. By midweek, students forget which day is which and the class competition loses steam. Most of that is a reminder problem.

Ideas for Spirit Week

Tomorrow’s theme, with an example

Show the theme and a photo of a staff member or student dressed for it. A picture explains twin day better than a sentence.

Class competition standings

Post points by grade at the end of each day. Students check the screen to see who’s ahead.

Today’s best photos

Add a few approved photos from the hallway, lunch and the assembly. Students look to see if they made it.

Pep rally details

Give the time, any bell schedule change and where each grade sits.

Staff who joined in

Show teachers and staff who dressed up. Students notice when the adults play along.

An easy option for every theme

Note a simple way to take part, like wearing school colors, so no one sits out for lack of a costume.

How it works with Digital Signage

Spirit Week, step by step.

Three steps

  1. Use one shared deck for the week

Link a Google Slides deck to the timeline and keep the standings there. Updated points appear once the screen refreshes, roughly every 20 minutes.

  2. Add photos as the week goes

Upload approved photos from your library or computer to the timeline each afternoon, with Friday as their end date.

  3. Wrap up with the winner

Schedule a final slide naming the winning class to start Friday afternoon and run through the following Monday.

Setups vary by school; your demo confirms what yours will use.

Best practices

Tips to get it right.

Spirit Week tips

  1. Announce themes a week ahead

Post the full lineup the Friday before so families have time to dig through closets.

  2. Update standings the same day

If points lag a day behind, students stop checking. Post the totals before the last bell.

  3. Sort out photo permission early

Use photos that fit your school’s media release practice, and skip students whose families have opted out.

  4. Pick themes that cost nothing

Avoid themes that require buying something. Free, easy options keep turnout high.
