Organize your school’s videos so people can find them

School video piles up fast: game film, concerts, senior speeches, assemblies. Rocket keeps those recordings in the same folders as your photos, with titles, tags and dates that tell the next person what each one shows.

Why it matters

Videos are big, unnamed and hard to share

A phone video ends up named with a number, saved on one laptop and shared by a link that eventually stops working. A year later nobody can say which file is the full concert and which is a short clip.

Ideas for School Video Library

Full recordings and highlights

Keep the full game or performance and the short highlight in the same event folder, with titles that say which is which.

Senior speeches and assemblies

Save the moments families ask for again, like senior speeches, award assemblies and retirement tributes.

Titles that describe the content

Rename “IMG_4471.mov” to something like “Varsity Soccer, Lakeview Game, Second Half.” Search works from the words you write.

Event programs beside the video

Upload the printed program as a PDF next to the recording so names and song titles are easy to check.

A tag for performer limits

Tag recordings with use limits, such as performances with music rights questions or students who shouldn’t appear publicly.

A short caption for context

One line on the date, the venue and who is performing saves a lot of guessing when the video comes back up.

How it works with Media Management

School Video Library, step by step.

Three steps

  1. Create folders for recordings

Add video to the season, team or event folders you already use, or nest a recordings folder inside each one.

  2. Upload with the rest of the event

Drop videos into the same batch as that event’s photos and PDF programs, then add titles and tags.

  3. Find it and hand it off

Search titles, captions and tags, preview the file and its details, then download the original or copy a link.

Setups vary by school; your demo confirms what yours will use.

Best practices

Tips to get it right.

School Video Library tips

  1. Name the version in the title

Words like “full,” “highlight” or “raw” in the title stop people from sharing the wrong cut.

  2. Keep one final copy

Upload the version you’d share, not every take. Fewer near-duplicates make search results easier to read.

  3. Record the date in the folder name

Shared video files can lose track of when they were recorded. A dated folder keeps the timeline clear.

  4. Check permissions before sharing

The consent rules your school uses for photos apply to video too. Check them before a recording goes on a public page.
