Athlete spotlights for every team, not just varsity

Why it matters

The same few athletes get all the attention

The varsity quarterback gets the headlines while the cross country runner who set a personal best gets nothing. Coaches want to recognize more players but don’t have time to design posts. Spotlights stall after the first few weeks.

Ideas for Athlete Spotlights

Player of the week

Show a game photo, name, grade, sport and one highlight from the week.

Signing day announcements

Feature seniors committing to play in college, with the college name and their sport.

Senior night features

Give each senior on the team a slide during the week of senior night.

Scholar athletes

Recognize academic all-conference honors and team GPA awards next to game performance.

Records from your Rocket site

Play a team’s records folder from your Rocket recognition site so current athletes see the marks to chase.

A word from the coach

One line from the coach about effort or leadership says more than a stat line.

How it works with Digital Signage

Athlete Spotlights, step by step.

Three steps

  1. Make spotlights in Rocket Graphics

Pick a template, type the player’s details and add a photo. Your logo and school colors are already on it, so download it and it’s ready for the timeline.

  2. Schedule one week per athlete

Line up several spotlights with start and end dates so a new athlete leads each Monday.

  3. Put them by the gym

Give the athletic lobby screen its own timeline of spotlights and records while other screens mix in arts and academics.

Setups vary by school; your demo confirms what yours will use.

Best practices

Tips to get it right.

Athlete Spotlights tips

  1. Rotate through every sport

Make a season list so JV, freshman and individual sports get a turn alongside varsity.

  2. Use action photos

A shot from the game beats a team picture. Ask your photographer or yearbook staff for the best ones.

  3. Include managers and trainers

Student managers and athletic trainers are part of the team. Spotlight them too.

  4. Share the graphic on social, too

The graphic you make for the screen can go on your school’s social accounts after the usual approval.

Questions

Athlete Spotlights questions

An action photo, the athlete’s name, grade and sport, and one specific highlight or quote. Short and personal reads better on a screen than a full stat sheet.
